Camcorder Evolution

The camcorder has come a long way over the years. I remember the first camcorder that I saw. It was a monster. There were two parts to it. First you had the camera itself, and then the portion where the tape was recorded which look like a VCR with a strap. The guy who had it had the camera on his shoulder taking the video, and he was wearing the VCR are part over his shoulder. Nowadays you can get camcorders that fit easily in your pocket and have high definition quality video.

One of the greatest advances that is still ongoing is the changeover from tapes to memory cards. I say still ongoing because memory cards are still a bit high in price if you want a decent amount of memory to record your videos. The 16 GB card is adequate for a short amount of video footage had high definition quality but at least 64 GB is a wise choice if you are planning to do a lot of video shooting. Currently if you have just a 16 GB card, you can manage to shoot a lot of video if you are willing to stop and take the memory card each time it’s full. Then transfer the video to your laptop or a mass storage device. This can be time consuming especially if you have an older laptop that has low memory transfer.

If you are willing to bite the bullet and buy extra memory then there are other options. You can get to 32 GB cards for example. The first 32 GB card will be in your digital camcorder shooting footage. When that card is full, you can transfer it to your laptop and transfer the video. Then you use a second 32 GB card in your camcorder. Then keep switching off. This will save you a lot of time and hassle when there are important shots that you want to capture.
